The Santa Clarita Christian junior high coed soccer team took the field on Thursday with only nine players, but nine was just enough to earn a second victory in the two-game week, 3-0 over Pinecrest at Central Park.
The Cardinals (2-1) applied pressure from both sides of the field with forwards Brandon Collette and Kayla Norton setting up several scoring opportunities throughout the contest.
Billy Latch blasted two goals from his midfield position and assisted on another. Teammate Brandon Collette also added a goal.
The defensive efforts continued from Tuesday’s game, allowing few shots on goal and giving Cardinal keeper Ryan Franchimone his second shutout of the season. Since joining the team, Franchimone has made five saves.
Strong midfield play by Tyler Vanderlinden and Bryan Spaid, combined with the defensive efforts of Chris Rahal, Calvin Hoffmann and Cam Broadbent, helped secure the shutout.
The Cardinals return to action on April 19th against Legacy Academy at Central Park at 3 p.m.
